Focus on environment and sustainability

For over 30 years now, Höft & Wessel has been developing IT systems and matching hardware for mobile solutions, ticketing, telematics, the retail sector, logistics, and parking. These solutions contribute towards making processes more efficient and, therefore, to sustainability and energy savings.

Examples are merchandise management, transport logistics, networked mobile as well as stationary ticket vending and car park terminals, complex telematics systems or flexible sales system solutions. The process improvements added over the years lead to more efficient use of means of transportation available. This aspect has become increasingly important recently. In the wake of signs that the oil age is nearing its end, not only has the search for alternative energies been intensified; there have been increasingly vociferous calls for economical use of resources. Höft & Wessel has supplied suitable solutions in this context for some time and had been certified in conformity with environmental management standard ISO 14001.

With its product portfolio in the Almex division, the company contributes to effective management of public transport, the significance of which plays a central role in shaping an environmentally compatible future. The British Metric subsidiary has been supplying car park terminals independently powered via integrated solar circuit boards since the 1990s. What is next in the product pipeline are ticket terminals featuring complex functionalities. Alternative energies play an important part in Höft & Wessel’s future strategy for autonomous power supply configurations.

Moreover, e-ticketing and park-by-space systems will render paper tickets and printers redundant. Booking and checking are effected online. On balance, substantial savings will be generated in terms of paper, energy and maintenance efforts.

At Höft & Wessel, customers have been able to rely for a long time on their ability to acquire durable and well designed devices and equipment. Low energy consumption is a key feature of these products since this aspect represents an important criterion for deployment times. The same applies to the high durability of the products manufactured in conformity with industry standards; this ensures that they can be used even in the most difficult of working environments with immense longevity. This corresponds to what customers want and simultaneously gives them a measure of sustainability and, hence, investment protection.

Finally, active environmental management leads to changes within the company itself, whether through savings in energy consumption or by changing general awareness levels amongst the workforce.
