Höft & Wessel presents global novelty in RFID technology: first mobile long-range UHF reader with integrated bar code scanner and WLAN link
Press release Höft & Wessel AG, a manufacturer of mobile data capturing devices on a global scale, today presents the world's first mobile long-range UHF reader that complies with the international EPCglobal standard. With its mobile data recording device skeye.integral UHF, Höft & Wessel provides an RFID reader that gives wholesalers, retailers and their suppliers speedy and convenient first-time access to RFID technology. Hanover, 13 September 2005 --- Everyone is talking about it, and major wholesale and retail chains such as the REWE Group are already using RFID (Radio Frequency Identification), a technology that rationalises and accelerates processes in the entire field of supply chain management. This radio frequency technology facilitates touchless identification, control and tracking of any number of merchandise articles and objects across the entire value added chain - from production and transport logistics right through to after-sales service. Pioneers like REWE have realised this and are in the process of modifying their merchandise flows accordingly in cooperation with their suppliers. In order to record and process the relevant data, either fixed, installed reader stations or mobile readers are required, among other things. Höft & Wessel has now equipped its mobile data capturing device with RFID technology especially for wholesale and retail applications. An integrated UHF reader makes it possible to read and write to RFID storage devices across a distance of 2 metres, making the system location-independent and meeting the high flexibility required for all applications in the process chain. With the integrated bar code scanner and the WLAN radio module, the hybrid device can be deployed as an online terminal both for RFID and for conventional applications. It has already received European approval in accordance with ETSI EN 302 208 and EN 300 220. Höft & Wessel, in its capacity as an RWE technology partner, is scheduled to present the new product at the "REWE Innovation Forum 2005" in Cologne on 14 September 2005. The primary focus of this event is to provide a comprehensive presentation of RFID technology for REWE suppliers.
