Hoeft & Wessel to supply Rheinbahn AG Düsseldorf with 540 e-ticketing machines (ETM) and integrated boarding control system

Press Release

Hanover/Germany, 05/02/2010. Hoeft & Wessel AG received an order from Rheinbahn AG, the company responsible for the public transport system in Düsseldorf and the surrounding region, for the installation of ETMs with an integrated boarding control system. As early as 2010, all the buses operated by Rheinbahn will be equipped with the new, compact ETMs. The type optima cl devices are capable of checking both contactless E-tickets based on German VDV-KA standard and tickets with a barcode, eliminating the cost of an additional control device in the vehicle. Electronic tickets can be checked by the ETMs quickly and easily, simply by holding the ticket up to the device. The reader allows 2D barcode tickets obtained over the Internet or transmitted to the mobile phone to be checked as well.

In addition, the driver can use the device to sell tickets against payment by means of cash or cash card. Data communication can be via WLAN and UMTS. The device with its very compact design and full complement of technical features can easily be integrated into the vehicles.

The ETM impresses not only with its technological capabilities, but also with its perfect ergonomic design, which earned it the Universal Design Award 2009 as well as a nomination for the German Design Award 2010.

Hoeft & Wessel is one of Europe’s leading providers of complete ticketing and telematics solutions.
