Placing trust in a strong partner

Rossmann, with around 1,200 retail outlets, is the third largest chain of retail pharmacies in Germany, and has switched its branches over to the latest generation of skeye.allegro mobile scanners. This company, headquartered in Hanover, Germany, is thus placing its trust in the devices of the Skeye product division of Höft & Wessel AG for the second time. Besides the high quality of the products, the comprehensive service package proved to be decisive.

Due to its extensive range of brands and multitude of small-ticket items, the recording of individual products for merchandise management purposes represents a central task to be performed at Rossmann. The new devices fulfil these specific requirements. They are connected to a computer within the branches that is supplied on a centralised basis via WLAN. The application software was developed by Skeye.

A colour display and extensive memory additionally make investing in the new skeye.allegro future-proof, and make work easier. In close consultation with Rossmann, despite all these innovative elements, the familiar ‘look and feel’ were retained for employees. “The need for training was pleasingly low”, says Achim Wellmann, General Manager for IT at Rossmann.

The replacement of the devices is taking place during live operation. Rossmann has additionally decided in favour of a comprehensive service package, with the aid of which downtimes are minimised, for instance. Skeye repairs defective devices and takes over the entire logistics for replacement devices. There is a central pool of devices in place, by means of which defective devices are replaced immediately. “Where Rossmann submits its requirement prior to 14:00 hrs, a replacement device will be installed the following morning,” explains Björn Brauer, a project manager at Skeye. Skeye also organises a separate pool of approximately 1,000 devices for the half-yearly inventory at the branches. The devices are always located where they are required for the inventory at the time. The complete logistics process is taken over by Skeye.
