Ergonomic design: obvious benefits ‘at hand’

Ergonomics: consisting of the Greek words for work (ergon) and rule (nomos), means “the productive efficiency of the working human being”.

Ergonomics pays off. The mobile data entry devices (MDEs) from Skeye have been matched to the ergonomic requirements of users by specialists. This results in non-tiring work, higher productivity and improved quality with respect to data recording. Users who are satisfied and work efficiently are the outcome.

The skeye.allegro, for example, sits ergonomically in your hand because of details like its optimally balanced weight and hand strap. This additionally means perfect operability. During daily use, this represents an enormous improvement to the user. The design of the device and the layout of the operational elements facilitate continuous one-handed operation. All keys and functions are easy to access. The items to be scanned can be positioned using the free hand, the shelf can be searched, or other tasks using this hand can be carried out.

The angle at which the scanner beam exits the device was configured in such a way that the user does not need to rotate the wrist during the scanning process. The merchandise article is unerringly recorded, and the display remains readable during scanning. The MDE signals a successful scanning process visually by means of an LED, audibly by means of a loudspeaker or haptically with the aid of the vibration function. This facilitates adaptation to absolutely every environment. The reporting back of the scanning process even takes place without having to look at the display, which makes work at a densely packed shelf considerably easier and faster, for instance.

Through its ergonomic design and even its form and colour scheme, the skeye.allegro is proving and emphasising its ease. Even less technically adept employees quickly familiarise themselves with the MDE, because the skeye.allegro does not appear to be very technical, is structured in a clear way and can be operated intuitively.

A whole range of factors contribute towards the success of a product. Ergonomics, even though concealed in a targeted way, should never be underestimated during the daily utilisation of a mobile device.
