Skeye – For Fast Money

Convenience and safety at the supermarket cash desk

The skeye.quickpay checkout terminal is the automated payment machine for supermarkets. Here, customers can pay for their goods themselves. The throughput per cash desk is increased, and customers need to spend less time waiting at the till. Costs are brought down, service improves, and customer retention can be increased markedly. This new type of system is convenient for the customer and safe for the supermarket operator, because independent scanning by customers is avoided.

Employees scan items as normal, since they can usually do this better and faster than customers. Fast and error-free scanning ensures problem-free processing and prevents fraud during scanning. A further consequence: investment is significantly lower without the customer scanners customarily deployed. All other required steps can now be carried out by customers themselves in a very convenient way.

The skeye.quickpay automated payment machine automates the payment process, which would otherwise take up a lot of the time of both cashiers and customers. The checkout terminals are part of a comprehensive solution: scanning, paying and an exit barrier make up an integrated system. The barrier only opens once a reading device signals that customers have settled their sales slips at the automated terminal. Using the skeye.quickpay terminal – which only accepts cashless payments – more customers are enticed to leave their cash in their pockets – thus reducing the risk of handling cash. This system developed by Skeye can therefore display its strengths to the full in this way and increase convenience and safety in the process.

The terminal and the integrated system consisting of scanning, paying and secured exit will undergo practical trials at one of the large German chains of supermarkets as of the first quarter of 2008. Currently, the rollout of this cash desk system is underway for nationwide deployment at a large C+C operator. We will provide you with reports based on current experiences here.
