Victory at the RoboCupSoccer championship

If our federal football coach, Joachim “Jogi” Löw, could only control his strikers the way that Team B-Smart at the University of Bremen controlled the small RoboKickers at this year's RoboCupSoccer championship, the European champion would already be a certainty.

The Bremen Robos in the Small-Size League were victorious, challenging international top class opponents, and the ER-Force team of the University of Erlangen occupied second place ahead of the Botonia Dragon Knights of the Vaasa University of Applied Sciences in Finland.

The RoboCup is an international initiative for the promotion of research and interdisciplinary education and training involving "AI – Artificial Intelligence" and autonomous mobile robots. The RoboCup German Open 2008 was held as a co-operative event between the Fraunhofer Institute for Intelligent Analysis and Information Systems (IAIS) in Sankt Augustin and Deutsche Messe AG in Hanover.

Radio data transmission within the 2.4 GHz band, inter alia used by WLAN and Bluetooth technology, is becoming more and more problematic as a result of an increasing number of users. This causes data to be queued up like passenger cars during peak travel times on the motorways of the Federal Republic of Germany: no unoccupied lane and no way to get ahead.

The solution of the victors is different: using DataUnwired Höft & Wessel DECT radio data transmission modules with secured data transmission – here using type HW 86012 radio transmission modules – simply allows data to bypass the traffic jam. Why?

The 1.88–1.90 GHz frequency band is exclusively reserved for voice and radio data transmission in accordance with the worldwide DECT standard. This co-operative system allocates the required transmission and reception slots to all participants using the so-called time and frequency division multiplexing process. In this way, collisions are pre-emptively avoided, and the stream of data speeds through the ether like a world-class striker. Secured transmission protocols always keep the ball close to the player, and the Robo player is off to score victory while the opponent is stuck in traffic without a connection, becoming embittered.
